ADULT ROWING PROGRAMS
Surfers Paradise Rowing Club Programs are designed to support Adult Rowers at every stage of their journey, from their first stroke in Learn to Row to Social Crew Boats or Private Coaching.
Training groups are streamed based on performance level and individual goals, ensuring each athlete receives tailored coaching and support.

LEARN TO ROW
(Age 18+)
Whether you're brand new to rowing or returning after time away, our Learn to Row program on the Gold Coast offers the perfect introduction to rowing in a safe, fun, and supportive environment.
Led by experienced coaches, you’ll build confidence on and off the water while learning the fundamentals through both indoor sessions and on-water training.
Each week, your technique, fitness, and enjoyment will grow, one stroke at a time.


PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Course Length: 4 sessions, over 4weeks

Cost: $225 (plus a $16 Rowing Queensland registration and insurance fee)
This includes insurance and full use of club equipment throughout the program. If you choose to continue your rowing journey, the $225 course fee can be credited towards your annual club membership upon completion.

When: Sunday mornings from 6:15am for four consecutive weekends.

Frequency: Learn to row course are run every 8 weeks
What to Expect?
The Learn to Row program runs across four key sessions, with up to six opportunities to get out on the water and develop your skills.
Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes.
Session 1: Introduction to Rowing
This session covers the basics of rowing technique on the ergometer (rowing machine), an overview of equipment, key safety protocols, and how to correctly handle rowing gear.
You'll then transition to the water, where you'll be introduced to rowing fundamentals and stroke technique, either in a single scull (with coach support) or a crewed boat.
Session 2: Crew Boats
On-water session in a crewed boat to practice and reinforce stroke sequencing, blade work, and boat movement.
Session 3-4: Rowing in Crew Boats
This session takes place in a larger crew boat, focusing on reinforcing proper technique and sequencing.
You'll begin to develop essential skills such as rhythm, balance, and coordination, working as a team on the water under the guidance of our experienced coaches.

What Happens Next?
At the end of the Learn to Row program, you'll have the opportunity to join Surfers Paradise Rowing Club as a full member. From there, you can continue your rowing journey through our school, club, masters, or social rowing programs, whatever suits your goals and lifestyle.

All Learn to Row sessions at Surfers Paradise Rowing Club are led by Rowing Australia accredited Coaches who are passionate about introducing people to the sport of rowing. Whether your goal is fitness, fun, or future competition, our team is here to support your journey, stroke by stroke.
As the oldest and largest Rowing Club on the Gold Coast, SPRC has introduced hundreds of athletes to rowing, from complete beginners to those who’ve gone on to represent Australia. We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming and encouraging environment where confidence, skills, and friendships grow.
After all, there never was a winner who wasn’t once a beginner.
