MASTERS ROWING

Masters Rowing at Surfers Paradise Rowing Club (SPRC) offers a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment for rowers aged 27 and over on the Gold Coast.

Whether you're returning to the sport after some time away or discovering it for the first time, SPRC welcomes athletes of all skill levels, from social rowers to those chasing national medals.

Our Masters program balances fitness, fun, and performance. From relaxed morning rows on the Nerang River to structured training sessions geared towards regattas, there's something for everyone. SPRC’s Masters crews regularly compete at the Queensland State

Masters Championships and the Australian Masters Rowing Championships, showcasing the strength and spirit of our club at every level.

In Australia, Masters rowing is divided into age-based categories to ensure fair and enjoyable racing:

  • Category A: 27–35 years

  • Category B: 36–42 years

  • Category C: 43–49 years

  • Category D: 50–54 years

  • Category E: 55–59 years

  • Category F: 60–64 years

  • Category G: 65–69 years

  • Category H: 70–74 years

  • Category I: 75–79 years

  • Category J: 80–84 years

  • Category K: 85+ years

These divisions encourage fair competition and celebrate the lifelong nature of the sport.

Many of our Masters athletes also compete at the Australian Rowing Championships in Club events such as the double scull, proving that age is no barrier.

At SPRC, 'Masters' represents not just an age group, but a mastery and deep appreciation for the sport.

Our Rowers embody the idea that with dedication and passion, personal achievement and elite performance are possible at any stage of life.

Beyond the competitive arena, SPRC Masters rowers embark on training excursions to nearby locations like Hinze Dam, seeking pristine waters and new challenges.

These outings not only enhance rowing skills but also offer the chance to experience the stunning scenery of the Gold Coast.

Traveling together to Regattas, our Masters squad embodies the spirit of adventure and community, making every Rowing journey memorable.

Masters rowers are the heartbeat of any Rowing Club and at SPRC, they form the foundation of our vibrant community.

Their experience, leadership, and passion for the sport often extend well beyond the boat, with many taking on vital roles as Coaches, Mentors, Committee Members, and Event Volunteers.

Their dedication not only supports the day-to-day running of the club but also nurtures the next generation of athletes, creating a legacy of knowledge, camaraderie, and Club Spirit that strengthens SPRC from the ground up.

Whether you're chasing Gold, chasing a PB, or simply enjoying the rhythm of the oars on water, the SPRC Masters Program invites you to join a Crew that’s passionate, supportive, and always ready for the next adventure.
